Acts of honesty
Unfortunately due to the lack of government interest and weak laws, corruption is becoming part and parcel of the daily lives of the people of Pakistan and due to the increasing corruption, the country has a permanent place on Transparency Internationals top ten list of corrupt countries.
Most of the corruption stories are coming from the governments own camps and the Pakistan judiciary is still trying hard to recover money from Swiss banks and other financial institutions.
While this dark scenario of corruption continues, a Pakistani cab driver in Dubai has set a remarkable example for corrupt politicians and for the rest of the country as well. According to media news, the 26-year-old Pakistani cab driver, who comes from a very poor area of Pakistan, was honored by UAE police authorities after he handed over 127,300 Saudi riyals and expensive jewelry to the police.
A businessman left his briefcase containing the money and jewelry in the Pakistanis cab during his trip to Dubai. City police acknowledged the honesty of the driver and gave him a special certificate in a small ceremony. Although this news received only a few lines on the back pages of some newspapers, it is an example worth following and we must appreciate these acts of honesty by ordinary people.
